Herr Sektionschef: You seem to be very knowledgeable and the Panasonic folks apparently are not, so here is my question: The proprietary video editing software bundled with the camera is so basic, yet user-unfriendly, that I am desperately looking for other software. I have Sony Movie Studio on my PC and iLife with editor on my new iMac, OS X Leopard. Getting videos off the RAM disc onto the HDD for later editing and burning to DVD is not intuitive and sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't.

There must be an application that gets around the Panasonic-based junk. Can you help?

Thanks, Gunther. Sektionschef: Am grateful for your help. I have the newest burner with RAM reading/burning capability. Connecting the D-300 directly to the computer via the adapter allows me to view only the first 'event' recorded and then loops to the beginning ad infinitum. Downloading from the RAM disc to the HDD for editing produces files as 'DV_RTV' and will not allow editing.

I know I'm overlooking something in the manual. Please stick with me on this because I took delivery of my first iMac and hope to do better after installing the Mac part of the Panasonic installation disc. I hope I can use the proprietary Mac 'iLife08' editing program on the new machine. The Panasonic camcorder records to min-RAM discs which cannot be used in the iMac DVD slot. Thus I have to download them into the PC, edit them (if needed.), burn them to a normal sized DVD- or + R and then transfer them to the iMac. The latter's display is absolutely marvelous for showing one's videos although not for a larger group because of the viewing angle, as opposed to using my player/burner (yes, it does both, even from VHS tapes.) and the TV set.

Your # 14: I was redirected to this spot for my reply: One of the vagaries of the iMac is that its sole CD/DVD slot will not accept discs other than normal size. Since my 'discovery' (at your suggestion.) of Nero essentials, I seem to be able to play all of my videos on my Gateway without trouble. Am facing a dial-up download of 12 MB of the Apple Leopard version of the editing software driver for the Panny camcorder from Japan. I'll come back for your ideas should the new driver not work as advertised.
